I N S T R U C T I O N 38 SEPT/OCT 2017 SPEED BUMPS GET OVER YOUR TENTATIVE STROKE WITH THE JUMP THE STICK DRILL F or those of you that are tentative on your short flat or uphill putts, the "jump the stick drill" is perfect … and it couldn't be easier. Simply lay an alignment stick, or a golf pencil braced by two tees, directly in front of the cup and putt two, three, four, and five-footers that (literally) jump the stick (or pencil) and land in the hole. This will force you to strike the putt firmly enough for the ball to get over/"jump" the stick and land in the hole, but not so hard that it flies over the hole. This drill will build your speed control as well as your confidence.
