30 NOV/DEC 2017 G O L F & T R A V E L PLAY PACIFIC GROVE MUNICIPAL GOLF LINKS You've heard it's one of the great municipals in the Western U.S. You've heard it's a "mini-Pebble Beach" or a "mini-Spy- glass." Only one way for you to find out if it's true, and that's to play it yourself. 77 Asilomar Boulevard Pacific Grove, CA 93950 831-648-5775 PLAY ARROYO SECO GOLF COURSE If you're actually staying in Los Angeles, there's a lot of things to do. So, if you don't want take up an entire day with golf, take up part of a day at Arroyo Seco's 18-hole, par-3 course. You can play the lighted course up to 10 p.m., or take the kiddos along for some mini-golf. 1055 Lohman Lane South Pasadena, CA 91030 (323) 255-1506 CHECK OUT: We could have suggested the Monterey Bay Aquarium, generally considered to be among the finest in the world, or Cannery Row, a living, breathing, entertaining outdoor mu- seum. Instead, we'll just say head to the city of Monterey and check out all of the above. The aquarium is a wonderland for both young and old, and a force for ecological preservation in the area. Just outside the aquarium, Cannery Row offers its uniquely Californian mix of history, food, and entertainment, all wrapped around the beauty of the Monterey Bay. Oh yeah – if you're passing though September 21-23, 2018, you might want to go about check the Monterey Jazz Festival off your bucket list. CHECK OUT: Is it touristy? Yes. Is it kitschy? Certainly. Is it an iconic symbol of the western edge of America? Absolutely. All of which makes the Santa Monica Pier a thoroughly satisfying stop during any L.A. stay. Sus- pended above the Pacific just south of the intersection of state Routes 2 and 1 - where Route 66 ends at the Pacific Ocean - it screams Cali- fornia, but it's really an amusement pier right out of the New Jersey/ New York playbook. Restaurants are abundant, libations are available, and of course, there's the Ferris wheel, roller coaster and all the other rides at Pacific Park, the amusement park located on the pier.
